Courage to Connect – Networking for Joy – Exhibit

I am happy and looking forward to a group exhibit that I am going to be part of in Florida at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. The group I am exhibit with has been a very special group of women. For the past 7 years, we have been meeting online regularly to generate more joy in our lives and those we touch. I was very skeptical about the idea of “Joy Based Living“, when Debbie Happy Cohen, a dear friend of mine, invited me to join.

Coming from a spiritual background, joy as I understood it, was just a fleeting moment, nothing to aspire to. Yet, the joy we re-discovered in the group turned out to be a recovery of our innate bliss. What we didn’t envision was that, before generating true joy, we had to wade thru quite a fair bit of messy healing. In the process, I found that my way of making art (intuitively) has been very cathartic and therapeutic. Read more about this group below…

This exhibit is a wonderful opportunity to share our process, our art, the healing, and all that we have to offer. Interestingly, the exhibit is part of a larger exhibit at the Carrollwood Cultural Center that speaks out against human trafficking. And human trafficking is also causing and causes loss of joy and disconnection and trauma, which is exactly what we have been trying to heal for the past 7 years.

The reception for our exhibit is October 9th 2020.
AND WILL BE LIVE BROADCASTED AT 1:30PM PST
The art gallery exhibit will run from
Sept 28th – Nov 2th 2020.

The exhibit will be streamed online and I will post or send more details as they come in. Here is a little video interview and a preview of what to expect from the exhibit. Check out my painting (at 24:47) . . .

Below is a post on Social Media about the human trafficking exhibit that is already running, and some details below . . .

The Center has two new powerful exhibits that speak out against human trafficking.
Project GOAT, which stands for Global Offensive Against Trafficking is an art-based awareness and fundraising campaign for the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children. The Center is currently displaying four of 55 life-size goat castings that were painted or otherwise embellished by mostly local artists and, in many cases, represented by celebrity athletes, actors, musicians, and others.
Accompanying Project GOAT is an exhibit titled “Faces of Human Trafficking” by featured artist @Jennifer Houdeshell. Her exhibit includes 17 black and white images to help raise awareness of the scourge of sex trafficking in the U.S. Her paintings have been exhibited in a wide range of public art settings in Central Florida where she resides.
Houdeshell’s exhibit will remain on display through October. Project GOAT will remain on display through mid-November.

ABOUT Joy-Based Living:

Bridging the gap between trauma and joy

In 2016 a small group of mostly women began a quest to increase joy in their lives and in the world. On our journey, we were surprised to discover that many of us were coping with the effects of Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD, and Complex PTSD). Each person in the group was committed to personal growth and moving from trauma to thriving. So, we started a program of healing through emotional literacy using both words and art. Along the way, we found friendship, agency, full self-expression, and joy!
