Filling the creative well…

Getting out and about visiting friends in Berkley and Santa Cruz, just cruising 😉 and “filling up the creative well”. Julia Cameron writes about that in her book “The Artist Way“, she calls them “artist dates” and I have been neglecting them lately. I always somehow get to do my writing in the morning, but rarely allow myself to take time out to just hang out. It did include other people, which the traditional way of Artist dates doesn’t, you are just to have a “date” with your inner (child) artist. But nonetheless it was a big (and long) one for me and well deserved…
And sure enough as I was dangling my spirits in the sun and on long walks and talking with friends a whole lot of new ideas, experiences and fresh perspectives and images kept flooding in…In Santa Cruz we got fascinated by a street artis named Eliot Bliss . . . 😉

and he put this quote on the back of his painting…

“Give into and seek the goddess
of creativity
and the goddess of wealth
will become jealous, and follow”
~Eliot Bliss
Apart from amazing paintings, he also paints on shoes.

And then there is the relaxing view over the ocean…

and the land…
and the houses…
and the gardens…
and the goats :-), Yes, they had goats in a small area near the lagoon…
And in Berkley, the architecture in the neighborhood is quite awesome (Thousand Oaks has quite a history) . . .
In a bookstore I find the classic “Book of A Hundred Hands” by George B. Bridgeman, and while browsing online found out more about “How to Draw Hands: 35 Tutorials, How-To’s, Step-by-Steps, Videos, Studies, Poses and Photo References“.

And another quite inspiring find: “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon, well done book with loads of smart advice, really funny too. For example:
“Creative people need time to just sit and DO NOTHING!”
YES! 🙂
So here I am doing (almost nothing), going for walks, browsing bookstores, eating great food, playing with a toddler (and grown ups too) and just dangling my creative soul in the wind and sun with all new impressions etc. . . .

I like to hear from you
