Painting of a Young Child
I have been working on this portrait for my friends of their four year old daughter for quite a while, and it has been quite challenging. Part of that could be that i am so used to seeing her every day and yet she won’t sit still long enough to actually study her features.
I painted her brother a few years ago (see photo to the right) when he was a bit younger. I don’t remember it being so challenging, maybe because it was in profile rather than front on. Or perhaps I was more intrigued with the rest of the painting and the theme of “nurturing” while this portrait painting was “just” her.
In any case I am finally happy with how it looks. I love the fierceness of the background and her intense eyes and her whirlwind strong hair that can’t be tamed. She is quite a quirky and strong young soul and its so much fun to see them both grow up as we live with them, kind of as surrogate grandparents, haha.
