There is life that we do not know of…

How then can we argue?
having lunch in a field one day, I troubled an ant with a
question. I asked of him humbly.
“Have you ever been to Paris?”
and he replied, “No but I wouldn’t mind going.” and then he asked me
if I had ever been to a famous ant city. And I regretted that I
hadn’t, and was quick to add, “I wouldn’t mind, too!”
This led to a conclusion: There is life that we do not know of.
How aware are we of all consciousness
in this universe?
What percent of space is this earth in the infinite realm?
What percent of time is one second
in eternity?
Less than that is our
knowledge of
God
How then can we ever
argue about
Him?

(Meister Eckhart)

Found this poem in the book by Daniel Ladinsky, “Love poems from God”, twelve sacred voices from the East and West. And it reminded me of how Abhinavagupta, in his Tantraloka, takes us on a journey around the hundred and eighteen worlds and back, only to tell us in the end that this is only what he has seen, and there are infinite more worlds, and that he is sharing it with us only to make us aware of how insignificant small we are in this amazing, vast world of God.

After finishing our annual retreat, following the Birthday of our spiritual teacher, I am still in amazement and full of gratitude for this treasure of wisdom of an oral tradition and Swamiji’s foresight to preserve it in audio and video for us to listen and watch over and over until we understand and are able to digest it one day, hopefully! Every time I listen to his words it seems totally new, like I have never heard it before. Yet every time I hear it, meditate on it, tiny bits of this vast world of God comes into view, gets illuminated, gets clearer, disappear again. How can we every understand it all?
